Woman in the Mirror
Woman in the Mirror
In his genius, Norman Rockwell gifted us with the image of a young girl wondering how she can ever be transformed into a beautiful woman. Is it really possible? Will it really happen? She has cast aside childhood in anticipation of womanhood. But her concerns and her doubts are needless. Her transformation has already begun… she couldn’t stop it if she tried. Becoming an adult is inevitable.
There is of course a spiritual parallel here. So often we look at ourselves with a sense of fear. Can it be possible that we will ever become holy, a purified bride ready for our God? The doubts creep in. We cast away the temporal, anticipating the eternal… but look at us! How can it really happen?
The answer is the same for all those who are born into the Promise… it is inevitable. Our transformation has already begun and we couldn’t stop it if we tried.
“Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the Word, and to present her to Himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.” Ephesians 5:25-27
